About SCV Magic
A team can chase wins and build good people
SCV Magic is a new non-profit basketball team in the Santa Clarita Valley. We grew up playing here. This is why we started it and how we plan to run it.
Our story
Who started this, and why
We are the coaches and team manager of SCV Magic, and we are family. All three of us grew up playing basketball here in Santa Clarita and played for Saugus High.
We have played our whole lives and coached for years. Our kids have played for AAU programs all over this valley, and the older ones have gone on to their high school teams. We have been the kid on the team and the parent in the stands.
We started SCV Magic because we believe a team can chase wins and build good people at the same time. We want the girls to have fun, win games and still be friends years from now.
Our parents have been cheering for us since we were little, and now they cheer for our kids. That is the feeling we want this team to have. We know it takes time.
This is our first season. We are starting with one group, 12U girls, and we are starting small on purpose.
Twelve matters. In an Aspen Institute Project Play survey published in 2026, kids who had quit sports had stopped at an average age of about 13. We want this to be the year the game becomes hers.
So we measure ourselves three ways: positive people, great teammates and winning basketball. Not by how many teams we field or how much money comes in.
We are a first-year team, so come meet us and ask us anything.

How we measure ourselves
Three things, in every practice and every game
Positive people
Good people come first
We ask players to listen when a coach is talking, thank the referees and help put the balls away. We practice those habits like layups: on purpose, until they stick. Mistakes get a correction and another rep, not a lecture.
Great teammates
The pass before the pass
We praise the extra pass, the screen that frees a shooter and the first player to help a teammate up. Those count as much as points. In games, we want the bench loud for whoever is on the court.
Winning basketball
We keep score and compete
We want to win, and we teach what winning takes: footwork, defense, spacing and making the right read. Every practice has a plan. The goal is a team that is hard to play against and fun to play on.

Non-profit
Run for its players
SCV Magic is run for its players, not to turn a profit. That shapes our choices, from how fast we grow to how we coach.
It is why we are starting with one team and adding more one at a time. It is why we would rather know every player by name than fill a gym. And it is why winning is one of three things we measure, not the only one.
This is not about money for us. We want the girls to still have these friends when they are our age.
If you want to know more about how the team is run, ask us. We will tell you.
For parents
What you can expect from us
We will coach every player, not just the top of the roster.
We will tell you honestly where your daughter stands and what she is working on.
We will hold players to a high standard and never embarrass a kid to get there.
We will share fees, the practice schedule and the season plan before you commit to anything.
